All the photos included in this site were taken by me, Johnny Autery of Dixons Mills, Alabama. I began serious photography in the 1970's with a special interest in lightning imaging starting in 1978. Lightning has always been fascinating and awe inspiring, so from the beginning my goal was to shoot a unique photo of lightning. However, I never expected to get the shot of a lifetime. That is what happened in the early morning hours of May 3rd of 1984. That photo is the centerpiece of this web site. It has appeared on the Today Show, the Weather Channel, the Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel and has been featured on many weather segments on TV stations throughout the country. In addition the photo has been published in National Geographic, Weatherwise Magazine and numerous periodicals, journals, textbooks and brochures. Be sure to read the articles about the photo presented here, included is my account of the events that took place on the night of May 2nd and 3rd 1984.
